About the artist

Born in Puerto Rico in 1995, Alejandra Nanishi is essentially interested in an emotional approach with the spectator. Having in mind the idea that each image has a deeper meaning far more from the title or the image itself. Her goal is that spectators see the entire work of Art and create in them different feelings throughout the whole experience.
Alejandra Nanishi's artistic passion started developing around 2007 thanks to the support of her parents. She has participated in 19 national group exhibitions and 8 international group exhibitions, both in-person and online representing Puerto Rico. Some of her international participations include collective exhibits in London, Mexico, Canada and the United States. She has also participated in 2 juried online competitions and 1 in-person competition, of which the artist has won a Talent Prize Award, grants, and has had Honorable Mentions, ranking #9 amongst 191 international artists. She's won these competitions with her pieces "Honor a la Pietá de Miguel Ángel," "Gamma Knife," "Atabex observando la masacre," and "Vejigante Mío"
She has had drawings, paintings, and her own writings published in over 7 books and local magazines, as well as conducted individual interviews. As an emerging curator, she has co-curated and co-organized 3 exhibitions in Colorado, USA, and in Puerto Rico. Early in February 2025, she was the lead curator in her first curatorial project in Puerto Rico after graduation. Her next curated work will be open by June 2026.
She obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Painting at the School of Fine Arts and Design of Puerto Rico (EAPD) in 2018 and later in December 2023, she obtained her Master of Arts in Gallery and Museum Management (MGMM) at Western Colorado University (WCU). With her capstone research project, "Museums in Puerto Rico Exhibiting Human Remains of their Own Culture: An Analysis of Three Institutions," Alejandra Nanishi has had the opportunity to participate as a speaker in the 14th Annual Boston University Graduate Student Political History Conference, and at ICOM's International Committee for Museology (ICOFOM) International Conference & 47th ICOFOM Annual Assembly at St. Andrews University.
She is currently dedicated to her art, exhibits curation and cultural investigations.
